Falling Objects

My first time trying to animate falling objects in Maya. In these two examples, a glass marble falls onto a panel of glass. One is tempered so the marble bounces, and the other shatters from the impact.

The first time I tried to create the path for this ball, I keyframed everything, including the inbetween frames as if it was a stopmotion- with the ball held in the air by a string. Then I learned how to use the graph editor to make it smoother and bouncier , with Maya doing the work for the inbetween frames. The glass should be more transparent in the fully rendered out version, but it doesn’t really show that in the Playblast.
In this shatter glass animation, I have no lights or mapping around the area so creating a glass material on the marble and the panel just makes it appear black. I applied solid shatter and Rigid Body dynamics via the Bullet plugin on Maya to the panel. Note to self: Remember to delete history of the object before trying to apply dynamics to it or it won’t work. I keyframed the marble from its starting point, the place where it hits the glass, and then how it drops below the shattered the glass.
